SA 4WD Training Ford Ranger fitted with Tyredog TPMS from new in 2015.

TPMS

Tyre pressure is often overlooked when it comes to road safety.  As little as a 5 psi difference in tyre pressures can mean drastic increases in fuel usage, tyre and engine component wear.  Incorrect tyre pressure will increase braking distance and affect a vehicles handling.  Not to mention the increased risk of a blowout at high speed.  Temperature affects tyre pressure and tyre pressures can increase by 10psi or more when driving on hot roads at highway speeds.  TYREDOG™ TPMS has a complete range of Wireless Tyre Pressure and Temperature Monitoring Systems to suit many types of applications.  This includes motorcycles, cars, trucks, motor homes, buses, car and trailer, car and caravan.

Each kit contains a SecureFit fixing ring which once installed will help prevent sensor theft.  These SecureFit rings are easy to install and the correct tool is supplied in each kit.  Due to the small and compact size of each sensor, they are not really a target for theft as they look very similar to an ordinary valve cap.  Stolen sensors cannot be used on any other TYREDOG™ device.  Only learnable sensors can be programmed.  Replacement “learnable” sensors can be purchased for the complete range of TYREDOG™ products.

If any one of the sensors stop working remove the battery from that sensor and replace with a battery from a known working sensor.   Providing the monitor is on, as soon as you insert the known working battery, the sensor should come online.  If this fixes your problem, then you’ll need to purchase a replacement battery.  If this doesn’t fix the problem, then you will need to contact Tyredog or your place of purchase so the problem can be resolved.

Sensors subjected to pressure from sand and mud driving every week for 4 years without any damage.

Water and dust proof

The sensors are waterproof.  Providing the cap has been tightened up properly, the TYREDOG™ wireless sensors have been designed to be completely sealed.  This means they are water, dust and mud proof and river crossings will not be a problem.  Just be sure they are rinsed off after entering any salt water.  Each sensor has a rubber seal which prevents water, condensation, dirt, dust and mud from damaging the device.

Battery powered

The estimated battery life will be approximately 1 year.   It all depends on how often or how many hours the vehicle is used and the quality of the battery. Each sensor contains 1 x 3V CR1632 Battery. The cost of a replacement battery will range from $3 to $6 and are available from most leading electronic stores.  The TYREDOG™ wireless Tyre Pressure and Monitoring System monitor / receiver will show a battery Icon for both the monitor and the individual sensor when it’s time to replace the battery.  The TD-1000A-X, TD-1300A-X and TD-2000A-X series all come with a DC adaptor which can also be used the power the Monitor / Receiver. (Note: TD-1000A and TD-1300A are compatible with 12V DC only where as the TD-2000A series is 12V/24V DC compatible).

Monitor is connected to the vehicles electrical system via a cigarette lighter connection under the dashboard.

Original sensor batteries have not needed replacing after 4 years and 100,00 km.

Transmission range

In perfect conditions the transmission range can be around 10 metres. (Some times more, some times less. All depends on the shape, size of the vehicle and the metal structure involved).  If the sensor or monitor is surrounded by large amounts of metal structure, the transmission range will be reduced.  To increase the transmission range, the TYREDOG™ TD-2700F-X Series contains a Relay / Repeater Module.  This module is required for Trucks, Buses, Motor Homes, Heavy Duty Vehicles and vehicles with a Trailer or Caravans.  The Relay / Repeater module must be mounted within 10 metres range of the sensors but can be up to around 30 metres away from the monitor / receiver.

Careful monitoring of tyre pressure over a four year period has seen the Ford Rangers original Cooper tyres last over 100,000km. They were replaced while still having 2 to 3 mm of tread remaining.
