At SA 4WD Training Pty. Ltd. we deliver driver training in Adelaide and throughout South Australia.  Our team of qualified instructors have current training and assessment qualifications and are accredited to deliver nationally recognised training.  We have extensive and varied corporate training backgrounds including driver training at Sapol and the RAA, training overseas, and the training of employees working in remote areas.

Our 4WD specialist have delivered nationally recognised 4WD driver training courses to those working in the oil, gas and mining industries as well as medical organisations, Federal and State government departments and private companies.  Our courses are suitable for those contracting to companies such as Santos, Rio Tinto and BHP.

The wide variety of experiences has been brought together to provide to you the very best standard of driver training.  Our aim in training is always the safe operation of vehicles and equipment so that the possibility of any injury or vehicle damage is greatly reduced.  This is achieved by carefully risk assessing each facet of training.  Each student will receive the knowledge and experience to safely drive in all conditions that they may encounter, including country driving on sealed and unsealed roads.

Training can be conducted anywhere in the State (interstate by arrangement).  The practical training commences at Ashbourne, located 60 km south of the Adelaide GPO.  Students will experience driving in deep sand on Goolwa Beach, difficult terrain on our training track and through water at the Finniss River.

Upon successfully completing these units, individuals will receive a ‘Statement of Attainment’ issued by Time Education and Training RTO: 40058, the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

RIIVEH305F – Operate and Maintain a 4WD Vehicle

Unit of Competency                                     Assessment Requirements

Overview

This unit of competency provides training in driving and recovering a 4 wheel drive vehicle in difficult and remote terrain.  It is specifically designed as a course for those working in the resources and infrastructure industries.

OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE:

  • Identify four-wheel drive specific terms, terminology and techniques
  • Plan for minimal environmental impact
  • Perform pre-departure checks
  • Use 4WD mode
  • Co-ordinate and recover a vehicle
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs on four-wheel drive vehicles

The course comprises 2 phases;

1.     Theory:  Students will receive their unique username and password to enable then to commence the online theory phase of the course. The online training can be completed in around 5 hours, and the student can log in and out of the course at any time.  Student support is provided via telephone or email.

Phase one must be completed before moving to phase two.

2.     Practical:  Students will receive 8 hours of practical 4 wheel drive training.  The course usually commences at Ashbourne located 60 km south of Adelaide GPO.  Students will experience driving in deep sand on Goolwa Beach, difficult terrain on our training track and through water at the Finniss River.

The recommended maximum student instructor ratio in the vehicle is 3:1.  A suitable 4WD vehicle should be supplied by the customer or SA 4WD Training can provide a vehicle at a reasonable price.

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.  This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory and technical specialist roles.  Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors.

Overview

  • Maintain vehicle safety

The course comprises 2 phases;

Application

This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare and operate vehicles and related equipment to patrol pipelines or otherwise drive across a variety of terrains.

This unit of competency applies to operators who are required to check their vehicle daily for damage, ensure fuels and lubricant levels are maintained, effect minor repairs, prepare and maintain field equipment, and communicate with their base station.

In a typical scenario an operations technician patrols areas of pipeline or follows pipelines across a variety of terrains looking for problems which require maintenance or reporting, or drives to remote facilities.  During the course of their work they must check the vehicle for mechanical soundness before leaving base, ensure it is securely and adequately packed, make certain their communications equipment and contact schedule are in order and generally be prepared for long periods off-road.

Generally the operations technician would be part of a team during field trips, though they may be required to undertake limited trips. At all times they would be liaising and cooperating with their base station.
