Our Story
SA 4WD Training Pty. Ltd. was established in February 2018 by Greg and Tina Thompson after Greg had completed a 35-year career in policing and driver training, and Tina completed a 28-year career in banking and business management.
Greg’s range of experience within Sapol includes 15 years in the motorcycle section and 3 years at the Driver Training Unit at Fort Largs. He is a licensed motor vehicle driving instructor (MDI B51761). Greg has investigated many serious road crashes and he has prepared fatal accident reports for the Coroner. Greg’s insight into how crashes occur and how they can be prevented is incorporated into all our driver training courses.
Since 2004 Greg has also worked outside of Sapol delivering nationally recognised training and non-accredited training for companies such as Santos, Epic Energy, the RAA, and many State and Federal Government departments including the Australian Border Force.
Tina’s career with the National Australia Bank has been diverse but always based on customer service. Her experience dealing with complicated financial transactions has been a great asset in managing the office and dealing with customers. Her training in accounting and her understanding of website development, taxation law and the requirements of delivering nationally accredited training are an asset to the company.
Our continually growing team are all qualified trainers and hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE-40116). Our trainers have many years’ experience delivering nationally recognised training and non-accredited training in the workplace, including several with experience training at Sapol’s Driver Training Unit.
The nationally recognised training programs are delivered through a third-party agreement with Time Education and Training (RTO 40058). We ensure that our trainers are current in their accreditation to deliver nationally recognised training. Continual professional development is a contractual requirement to maintain this third-party agreement.
SA 4WD Training also delivers non accredited training. We can provide a wide range of services including conducting a training needs analysis, preparing company specific driver training programs, writing company specific driving policies and the investigation of motor vehicle collisions or events.
SA 4WD Training’s aim is to deliver best practice in adult learning. This is achieved by a documented process of the continual improvement of our trainers and company processes, as well as bench-marking with industry. Our close relationship with other training organisations and government departments assists us in achieving this goal.
Our experience in collision investigation means that the client not only receives theoretical training in safe driving strategies, but they will also get an insight into how crashes occur. Our goal is to provide the client the skills to reduce the chances of any injury or vehicle damage occurring while driving. All facets of training, whether on-road or off-road, are subject to stringent risk assessments to ensure the safety of the client.
